Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion

The stone having been sealed by the Pharisees and chief priests, * and Your all-immaculate body being guarded by soldiers, * You rose on the third day, O Lord and Savior, granting life unto the world. * Then the powers of the heavens cried out to You, O Giver of Life, and shouted, * “Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ! * Glory to Your eternal rule! * Glory to Your plan for saving us, only benevolent God!

Apolytikion

In you, O Mother, is preserved undistorted what was made in the image of God; for taking up the cross, you followed Christ and by example taught, that we should overlook the flesh, since it passes away, and instead look after the soul, since it is immortal. And therefore, O devout Mary, your spirit rejoices with the angels.

O Protection of Christians that never falls, intercession with the Creator that never fails, we sinners beg you, do not ignore the voices of our prayers. O good Lady, we implore you, quickly come unto our aid, when we cry out to you with faith. Hurry to intercession, and hasten to supplication, O Theotokos who protect now and ever those who honor you.

St. John's Lenten Letter

The Fifth Sunday of Lent

By Fr. Panteleimon Manoussakis

The Fifth Sunday of Lent commemorates Saint Mary of Egypt. In

reaching the end of the Lent, the Church gives us an example of a woman who

was both a great sinner and a great ascetic. By her example, the Church

instructs us that the goal of our fasting and of all our ascetical practices cannot

be individual, but it needs to be “churched”—that is, it needs to be brought to and

to pass through the liturgical life of the Church. As with the beginning of Lent, so

with its end, the Church reminds us that good works without the right faith

(orthodoxy) are nothing. Right faith here does not mean an ideology to which one adheres, but rather our conscientious participation in liturgical life of the Church,

and above all, to the Eucharist.

UPGRADING OUR CHURCH SOUND SYSTEM

With thanksgiving to our Lord, we are blessed at our parish to have a very faithful and prayerful byzantine choir led by Dr. Vasilios Lioutas and his assistant, Kosta Paleologos. As you have seen, Vasili and Kosta have gathered many of our young adults around them as they teach them the ancient art of Byzantine music. People from around New England and the country log onto our parish livestream services in order to hear this beautiful, peaceful and prayerful chanting.

Time has come to upgrade our church sound system in order to provide the best acoustic sound possible for both inside the sanctuary as well as on our livestream channel.

Stage One which was the replacement of the chanter's microphones was already donated by one of our faithful stewards for the cost of $3,000. We thank our parishioner for this faithful anonymous donation.

Stage Two will include upgrading/replacing the main mixer/receiver boards of the sound system, wiring, speakers, and the Altar microphones in order to complete the much needed upgrades. Currently we hear and experience interference from a local radio station and secular music and talk-radio often can be heard both inside the church as well as on the livestream during our sacred services.

The stage two estimated cost is $3,500-$4,000. Anyone who would like to donate towards this cost is welcome to do so. Please see Fr. Ted or one of the members of the parish council.

Thank you for your loving generosity!
